In the Dirt: Why I Care About Politics

This may be the most sincere blog post I've ever written, and that is quite a bold assertion. I've taken the liberty of expressing my thoughts before, but I want to be totally frank and possibly offensive.
Right now, we're in the midst of a distressing political season. To the right, the forces of nationalism and populist fascism have arisen in the form of Donald Trump. To the left, a blatantly dishonest female (who has and will continue to brazenly play the woman card) has arisen as the champion of the liberal legions. Yeah, it sounds more like a horror film than reality, but that's what we have.
In our social media saturated world, even the smallest event can become a big deal if enough people tweet and retweet about it. As a result, I understand that many people become wearied of all the opinions and rants- I get it. But allow me, as a someone with keen political interests, to present to you why some of us (at least myself) take it upon ourselves to fill your newsfeed with politically related items.

It's quite simple, really. Rather than feel proud of myself for staying out of the dirty mess of politics, I get on my hands and knees to "play in the mud and dung" as it were. Yes, it's revolting but I I'm doing it for a reason. If you want to remove the blight of today's dunghill, you must get down in it and plant the seed for the grass and trees to accomplish this.
You see, I'm not so arrogant as to imagine my generation is the last one or that I and I alone matter in this grand universe of ours. Real, flesh and blood people- possibly my own children or grandchildren- will be left with our decisions. Don't kid yourself out of that, and leave the cliche cop outs at the door. My generation is left with the stupidity of those who elected comrade FDR four times, and got us into two world wars. We're still left with the decisions of the morons who elected Abraham Lincoln and killed the constitution.
Maybe nothing I personally do will alter the course of events- I highly doubt such a result will follow. My blog posts, my Facebook ramblings and my Twitter observations may do nothing more than annoy my friends and make me reek with foul stench of politics. But at least I can with a clear conscience say I was not silent, that I made my protests obvious and open to the world on the one platform that allows me this privilege.
You can go on posting cat videos, avenger memes and what ever important things you may desire. I don't care. In fact, I welcome it as a mental relief. But don't presume to think that by keeping "above the fray" and keeping your hands and knees clean you are somehow better than us political nutcases. We care about the future (most of us anyway), even we care in different ways. I want those living here in a hundred years hence to enjoy freedoms we no longer have. If by voicing my opinion and using my vote I can do so, then all the filthy residue will have been entirely worth it.
